This is a query for a good friend of mine and I would like some additional input. He called me this morning that he signed up with fasthosts to host a website for his business. Now what the fool did was he didn't read the package specification correctly and to get a database he has to pay £25/£50 ex vat for a database.

I'm not geared up on hosting companies hence why I am posting here but my hosting company gives me a number of mysql databases for free. I had a quick look at Register1 and they seem to offer free databases.

My hosting is up in the next month or so and I thought about jumping ship and several people even recommended fasthosts to me due to how much they offer for the price and their spped but that seems not so true when you have to shell out for a database.

Is fasthosts offering something better to justify the fee for a database and are they really that good from what some people have recently told me?

I looked at fasthosts myself an hour ago and I don't seem to see the attraction so I wonder if my friend could get a refund and move on to register1 etc using this 30-day money back guarantee.

If he does plan to do this, how does he transfer his new domain to this new hosting company. Anyhow, I'll go and speak to him about what his plans are and slap him on the head for not reading the whole print.
