Fearful as I might be entering such an expert arena I have plucked up the courage to ask those of wisdom and extreme knowlegde for help.

US servers are cheap, UK servers are a rip off! - Ok established.

Here is my scientific thinking process and tell me what you think... I will owe you a beer or three.

UK Server costs £X and has X bandwidth and X spec for X

US Server has a millisecond delay, but for cheaper offers X better hardware, X better bandwidth.

So part one of the question is .. does this balance it out..

For example I am running a single core with VI.net for £153 a month with old fashioned hardware and its pretty slow on page loads. But I can get Dual Core, better drives and better speed CPU for $200 in the US.

Second part of my question is there are these silly rumours that IP locations affect the Google listing and thus if your visitors are UK based then you will not show up as a .com on Google. As you know you cannot access Google.com from the UK it auto redirects to the .co.uk and according to this rumour only shows UK IP sites!

So that being the case, How when I type Nike into google do I see the US hosted site on the front page.

Surely Google is about back links, traffic etc etc rather than if the persons server is in the correct back garden?

If I wanted to host in the US because it is much more sensible am I about to commit business suicide if my user base initially is the UK?
