Bear in mind the primary reason to even have a SSL certificate is to prove that the site owner has been verified. The fact that a SSL cert facilitates secure communication between a browser and server is what the majority of people think its main purpose is.
We were tempted to offer shared SSL once - we decided against it for the possible problems it can cause in terms of non-validation of the site.
