You could look at SyncBack (
http://www.2brightsparks.com/syncback/) - We've used it before and it's been excellent for scheduled backups over FTP, Tape, Shared Drives, etc.
It allows you to exclude certain files, produces reports of errors and there's a free version which includes most of the features you need for backups. The full version is about £16.00 and lets you backup locked/open files along with a few other features that are handy.
