Telephone Preference Service - Does it work?

Has anyone tried this or use it at all? website is TPS Registration if anyone is wondering what I am on about.

I get alot of spam calls from things like yellow pages and thomson local and want them to stop but don't know if something like this would have any effect.

I added a few people and it helped a little. Why not give it a go?

I have done Think it takes a while for your number to be put on though.

Just curious to if anyone has seen any noticeable difference in spam calls through using it.

    Not really.

I used to have to educate the spammers about the TPS, now I just hang up. It gets the message through.

I think it certainly helps, although it only stops the people who actually screen their list against the TPS database. For the rest, just ask them if they realise the number is TPS listed and they normally apologise and never call back seeing as it can be a 5k fine for them otherwise from what I remember.

Takes about a month before it kicks in.

Definitely reduced the number of calls for us, and for me at home - except those that originate outside the UK

Yeah i thought it was only for individuals but no it is for corporate as well so it made sense to register all numbers i have and anyone who phones up trying to sell me something gets the this number is TPS registered, don't phone me again or i'll let them know you ignore their do not harasss list (works every time!, except one guy who started e-mailling me every day instead!, easily taken care of with a rule to delete every e-mail from his domain)

Do it - the FPS (Fax Preference Service) was more use for us as it stopped people trying to buy our business or flog us vans dead.

The only thing about TPS is that someone markets the list of new registrations which means your phone goes crazy for the first month. We got an email about it perhaps a year ago offering to sell the sign ups which I promptly forwarded to Ofcom to be met with a template letter about two months later asking me to fill in 19 pages of what the problem was. That went in the bin too..
