Thread: routers and switches

    routers and switches

    This is purely out of interest;

    Who are the big names (or little names) in switches and routers that you guys use?

    Cisco, Juniper and extreme for routers.
    Hp, cisco and extreme for switches.

    Are there any other particularly good switches/routers floating around out there, for just doing basic level 2 stuff is there anything wrong with bog standard netgear/dlink kit?!

    Is there any chance of you guys saying what you use where in your networks and why - I think I would make an interesting comparison!

    We don't run our own network (don't need to) and use HP throughout.

    Of course my bull-bar is safe, it sits so high the old people and the children go underneath.

    For Layer 2, consider 3com superstacks. I've not tried their L3's, but their L2's are pretty solid and cheap too. I worked on a network that had around 100 of them and we had very few die on us.
