Advice needed for setting up hosting

Hi, Please bear with me if my questions are a bit basic as hosting is unfamiliar territory for me,
but I want to host websites for other companies. I would be building the websites, probably in Wordpress.
What would be my absolute cheapest way of hosting them?
Is it possible to set up a computer at home and do it myself, so essentially with no costs to me beyond set up?
Or are there very low cost commercial providers of this kind of service?

    Thanks in advance.

Plenty of places sell hosting accounts for a couple of quid per month or reseller accounts for a bit more. Drop a post in the Request for products or services section if you want some offers.

Technically yes, but the level of service that you will be able to provide will be considerably inferior to someone using a proper data centre with UPS and generator backed power, redundant cooling, fire suppression, 24x7 security etc.

You also need to be well versed in server management if you are going to run everything.

Remember that you get what you pay for, so cheapest isn't always the best

I would recommend you to take a cheap shared hosting plan! Definitely do it for yourself. It just does not pay off. You rather pay a couple of $ that taking care of all the server setup.

What I always recommend to my clients is to route their traffic through Cloudflare. Cloudflare has over 150 data centers worldwide. So your speed on a global scale is covered. On top of that they add a security layer on top of your site. I could set this up for you for free. Just hit me up.
