    Point to Point Connection

    Hi,

We are looking for a second point to point 10GB feed from Volta to Sov house. any recommendations?

I assume unprotected(?) if you already have one, and are using this for resiliency?
Who's the first link supplier (so you can attempt diversity)?

AI Networks is the primary feed. all we really need is a 10Gb Port with 2GB Commit for the moment. this is for redundancy.

This is a very unusual way of buying P2P circuits. Out of interest when you say a 2Gbps commit, are you buying 2Gbps 95%ile or is this a 2Gbps 'capped' rate limit on a 10G handover?

Usually for this kind of thing I would just buy 2 unprotected waves or df on checked different paths with your own switchover and call it a day.

10Gb port capped at 2Gb. BT want over 700 a month for a EAD at 10Gb. Gogent quoted us 300.00

You'd be mad to buy from BT when you actually have a choice in the matter IMO. That 300 is for 2G capped I assume? I would have thought the likes of ZAYO/EUN/SSE would be in that ~700/pcm ballpark if you don't already do much or any business with them. Although it's worth asking.

The crucial thing to consider is to ensure that you are not using the same underlying fibre path as Ai are using. Very important, and you must have a way to figure this out. It could easily be for example that Ai and Cogent paths share a Zayo duct route if you are buying as MPLS from two suppliers then it is less of a concern, but still. I would be checking.

If this is a little out of range then I would be talking to independents who buy dark fibre and can give you as passive wave, but again, check the path(s?) Ai are using first to understand what you need.

I think IX Reach have just built into Volta, and are definitely into Sov.

They've probably gone in diverse and would be able to provide diverse L2 across the network.

NB: Handled some of the IX Reach <> Console business previously, but haven't been involved for a number of years

I hope so, but I've previously tried to get a quote for 'on net' datacentres that after both of our time wasted they admit are actually not on net and won't sell services in. This was back in the original IX-Reach days I think, that behaviour is a real pet peeve and has make me less inclined to ask them for services. It's far from unique behaviour in this industry sadly, and I can't understand the point in it long term.

Would be good to hear if they are actually on net in Volta for real, it's great to see the carrier list growing at that pop.

That sounds about right for IXReach. They're one of the companies who like to lie through their teeth about which PoPs really exist and generally waste peoples time - they did the same with LDeX1.

Plus I'm not sure how much I would trust them at the moment given their recent brush with death.

Possibly the same site from memory. Pretty annoying practice, it reflects just as poorly on themselves as on the datacentres who merrily put thier name and logo in the carrier list. Though, again, LDEX not alone and we don't know the full picture or current status.

Yes, quite. Though it sounds in better hands now, time will tell.
