We dumped paypal years back as it's unreliable and they're impossible to deal with when you have 'problems'. We use nochex's 'merchant account' now for credit card payments but we've historically not had credit card payment available. Doubtless it's hurt our shared hosting sales to random visitors, but I don't have any real interest in that market anyway.

We use Nochex (business account) for the small number of customers who want credit card, most pay by cheque (local market) or bank transfer.

is that the same as the nochex merchant account? or is that the seller account?
Just filled in a form with nochex - looks like they have come on leaps and bounds since we last used them (about 4 years ago).
Currently been using 2checkout and I'm losing the battle with them!

2co are useless. Their maths is broken, their multicurrency even more so. We dumped them as we couldnt account for their charges as they seemed to be random and then they ****ed up a recurring transaction, turning £60 (~$110 at the time) into £110, but only crediting us with $110 and keeping the difference. That took a _long_ time to resolve.

Paypal / bank transfer / cash through post for kiddies. Paypal takes credit cards if the buyer does not have a paypal account so we use that for credit card payments. Nearly everyone who buys expects to need a paypal account however.

many of our signups dont want to use paypal - but then many others do, which is why we will keep it. I always have it in the back of my mind though that if I was paying for something online and paypal was the only CC method, I would think twice - dont know why, I just would and worry customers may too if we dont have an alternative.
Not sure if the card was stolen / dodgy but we cant get hold of the client which is a bad sign :-( Best of it is - the chargeback is for the full amount and doesnt take into consideration the charges etc that we paid to 2co and the bank, plus the costs setting up the server etc, we didnt actually receive the full chargeback amount!

I use paypal but I hate it and would droup it if I could. I do use Nochex and prefer it, but very few people use it. Also I use modernbill and it does not have a payment gateway for Nochex.

They have 3 accounts, personal, business (I think they call it "Seller" these days) and the merchant account.
The payment notification API works well if you have an automated billing system, I wrote a plugin for ClientExec a couple of years ago.

if we get setup with nochex merchant account - would you take a look at getting the plugin working with the latest release of CE ? Feel free to PM privately over costs etc :-)

No problem, it's a while since I looked at CE, but I guess not too much has changed.

If you want to do the CC payments properly, and its always a bonus I have found with shared hosting to do - worldpay is the better on I think simply because its UK based and a reliable service with decent customer support. The always seem helpful... its just the fixed reserve you have to have in your account to be able to use it...
On average its between 500 quid to 1k I think for hosting providers, depending on the amount you wish to push per month. Its a bit silly, but its simple due to the nature of the market...
I would recommend worldpay if you use it over the others ... im a bit scared of 2co and nochex but I dont hear much bad things said about nochex for just general cc payments.
