About Scolocate

ScoLocate’s data centre facility in Edinburgh is served by three buildings, known as Phase 2, Phase 3 and Phase 4. The combined floor space of these three buildings is 6981 m2 (for comparison, the size of a football pitch is 7050m2). The South Gyle location is well served by transport infrastructure, with close proximity to airport, road and rail links to Glasgow and the west coast, Dundee and Aberdeen along the east coast and south. The area is also a major telecommunications hub, with links with extensive reach across the breadth of the UK and beyond.

Phase II was completed in 1999 and has a gross useable area of 857m² with 257m² of data centre floor space. Phase II hosts the carrier, telco, ISP and Internet Exchange infrastructure. Open floor data centre space is available for colocation and managed services. Our security reception, network operations centre, plant rooms, and main offices are located here.

Phase III was completed in 2001 and has a gross useable area of 4050m² with 1270m² of data centre floor space. Phase 3 hosts open floor data centre space, caged floor space, ultra secure private vault space and secure storage space. Our facility plant rooms and a range of office spaces are also located here.

The Phase IV building was initially built in 2002. It has a gross useable area of 2074m² with 650m² of data centre floor space. In 2010 ScoLocate embarked on a two stage project designed to add an additional 1.6MW of IT load in Phase IV. The first stage of the development provided an initial deployment of 600kW IT load, with 100 rack positions of up to 6kW power density per rack and a target PUE of 1.4. This stage was completed on time and within budget on the 23rd February 2010 and has 100% occupancy.

The second stage started in September 2011 and provides a further IT load of 1000kW with up to 30kW power density per rack with a target PUE of 1.2. The development delivers 2 data halls, one of 800kW which already has 100% occupancy and a further 200kW to deliver a cloud enabled, highly efficient data centre space.
