    Telehouse building *another* datacenter (?)

Looks like telehouse has bought those two bits of land on the left and right of (one of) the entrance's and are building a new total 23,000SQM datacenter that is to say like nearly 250,000 SQFT

-Where do they get all this power!! (no fair!)
-Would it be better to introduce extra power to existing space in THE,THN maybe converting the odd office ect rather than building more and more? (or are they making plenty of profit on the real estate and (seemingly) false sense of a low supply of power (and obviously there is lots of demand)
-How the heck do they manage to get the planning permision* (especially for soo much space + insane power), ect

the docs (all I could find)
    (docs including unsigned plain text)

(I swear embed src used to work?)
*Edit: seems like they don't tecnically have planning permision yet but really it is just a matter of fomality given the land was sold with a view to this (signed off by mayor even) and below
    1. Telehouse have held pre-planning application discussions with the Local Planning Authority and it is intended that the additional Data Centre and Headquarters Office will be subject to consultation with the GLA Planning Decisions Unit, if required.

Local authorities are going to start getting a share of the business rates soon (rather than just be the collection agent for central govt as is the case now) so it seems likely to me that they will want to ensure that more businesses build/move into and expand on their patch... lets face it Tower Hamlets sure does like to have a lot of money coming in. Note: I'm certainly casting no aspersions whatsoever about this deal, just saying that Local Auhtorities in general are probably going to become a lot more "business friendly" over the next few years.

TH have used the scrubland for an extension/replacement to the car-park on occasions anyway - throughout the THW build etc

    >-Where do they get all this power!! (no fair!)

More is becoming available now the Olympic park isnt in use, but the amount they'd need for West if full is more than they have available

    >-Would it be better to introduce extra power to existing space in THE,THN

you'd think - although some of the refurb'd areas are looking really good.

    >or are they making plenty of profit on the real estate

Not read the last accounts or so, but in the 10 years upto prior to that they'd not made an actual profit as such

    >-How the heck do they manage to get the planning permision

TowerHamlets will sign off on outline planning and detailled planning for almost anything they think they'll get some money for (the plans for skylines look nice, but experience shows the estates never look half as good as the artists impressions once done, and there is ahstory of the "community" features getting "lost" during the build) - having replaced one corrupt and convicted chair-person with his brother-in-law - all part of the plan for trying to recoup the millions of taxpayer money they lost in a pyramid scam with an icelandic bank

Do we really want more DCs on that plot? Too many eggs in one geographical basket? I mean congrats for Telehouse, but I don't think I'd be putting any tin into the new sites if they came into existence.

I think you will find that space in E14 is still sought after at a premium... you have valid points but you're never going to get away from that I'm afraid!

Not sure what they will call it, cant be TH South as that would be behind the security hub.

This site will always be attractive mainly due to the high connectivity. Sure they could build a new site somewhere else but getting carriers in would be more difficult and take time. The existing site have pretty much every carrier on tap and they can charge a fortune for ILK cross connects!
