We run an email marketing service and we need send some clients campaigns on a new email server / dedicated ip, our mail app and database is hosted on our main server, we just want a new server to direct some ofthe mail sends, so its only real load will be the mail server.

This is true opt in legitimate email and we are talking several hunderd thousend emails a month.

Can any one help, would a linux vps be ok for this or would you do dedicated? please contact me if you have a quote.

We would prefer a uk based server.

From experience with large mailman based lists and a few professional email management systems like 1-2-all a VPS is never going to cope with 200k+/month emails - you need a decent dedicated server and a decent network connection, with a responsible provider who will help you take any and all spam complaints seriously.

How many e-mails and how quick? 200k e-mails isn't that much when spread over the space of a month. If you want them sent in an hour then its another matter.

Also do you want it to deal with the bounce backs? If you are just SENDING mail then a VPS should be able to handle 200k/month, assuming you have the technical know-how to correctly setup and configure a light weight mailserver.

The usual limit of emails is around 200-300 per hour with most hosts, a VPS server will allow you to handle the amount of emails you need to send. You have to read your host's AUP, as every company puts it in a different way. serverpoint.com states that

To send 200K emails a day you will need a VPS server and provide verification that your emails are solicited.
