LXAdmin on VPS package
Hi, I'm on the verge of taking a Linux VPS package, however CPanel costs an additional £60, while LXAdmin is thrown in for free. Any feedback on LXAdmin from anyone? I would be doing only the most basic administration on the server, emails and DNS etc to set up new sites, and possibly installing the occasional piece of software. Therefore, I only need a simple, easy to use interface.
One other thing is that LXAdmin comes with Bogofilter for spam filtering, while CPanel comes with Spam Assassin - any thoughts on the relative merits of these anti spam programs?

If it's free, ask yourself why.
You say you only need to ... and then go on to list virtually everything you need a Control Panel for.....

Jamie - you're right, I do want a reasonable amount of control of my VPS, so a good control panel is important. LXAdmin seems to have had pretty good feedback from what i can gather, and is lightweight too (using 15MBish compared to 128MB for CPanel).
The hosting providers have thrown in LXAdmin free with my VPS deal which is £150 a year for 10GB diskpace, plus lots of other features I would be looking for. This seems like an extremely good price from a provider who have been really responsive so far to queries etc.
The main issue preventing me from charging in is my lack of knowledge of the LXAdmin control panel - whereas if i go for cPanel, there is a lot of online support and documentation.....

LXAdmin is very buggy, and very little testing between releases and often hard to get a hold of any support. I also find it very counter-intuitive

No idea on LXA's footprint, but DirectAdmin on a VPS works ok at 128Mb, but CPanel requires 256.

The key difference is lxadmin uses lighttpd or apache, the figures they boast are based on lighttpd. I'd much prefer DirectAdmin, and it's relatively cheap on VPS anyway

Lxadmin is getting better - its fast and is updated frequently. Have you seen the documentation for it? Client and admin docs are at
http://doc.lxlabs.com/lxadmin/
reasonably well documented for most functions.

CPanel £60? Find a better host, CPanel on a VPS shouldn't be anywhere near as much as that, unless of course you meant £6, or you mean £60 per year.

As the OP talsk about £150 for a VPS for a year or +60 for one with Cpanel/WHM then its safe to assume thats an Annual pice
£210/yr aka 17.50/month, for a CPanel capable VPS is in the realms of "so cheap it's a con or cr@p" ...

Glad I wasn't the only one thinking that.

If you only need to do basic tasks then LXAdmin should be fine - it only uses 15MB RAM so you will have much more available for your software.
