This company is offering dedicated servers for a year for free according to their uk forum, where's the catch in offers like that, do you have to pay extras or anything?
I did some research into ovh before but most of the feedback seemed to be in French so not sure.
I've no idea what the deal on the forum is, but if you search webhostingtalk.com (couldn't find any reviews here) you will find the reviews you are looking for.

I can't see anyone giving a free dedicated server. maybe free for a short period if you enter a contact, for instance 2 months free if you pay for a year.

One thing i get free with no catches? That isn't what Chris said, Chris said You get what you pay for.
By this he means by paying more for something the service should be better, that is not always true.
For example a 10Tb server with Rapidswitch would come in at around £49/month and with Open Hosting £180-200/month, yet i find RS support to be faster, non APC reboots are a lot faster at RS and i've noticed more downtime/congested routes on the OH network than on RS's. (*based on what i've seen over the last 30 days*).
I do however consider OH's hardware to be more reliable, as my RS servers do crash occasionaly and my ones supplied by OH of similar spec have never crashed doing exactly the same tasks and load. And OH are willing to customise things slightly more for you it would apear.
The question is though what services are important to you to justify the extra money, sometimes its something you dont need, so then you don't get what you pay for?
But i agree most "free" things in life somehow come back to wanting your soul.

If someone buys you a pint, then you can guarantee you've either done something of benefit to them to deserve it.
Or they expect something in return.
It's always the case :P
