New Server, which one? Dell R200 or 860?

Evening All,

We will be upgrading our hardware shortly and have identified the R200 or 860 as a possible replacement for our SC1425. Any preference / opinions as to the suitability of the R200 or 860.

R200 is the best power wise

R200's also perform better than comparable 860's from what I've seen. You can get some good deals on 860's at the minute, but it's not worth it with the lower performance and higher power usage in the medium term.

Surprised however by the 3-4 weeks delivery - is this normal from Dell?

Typically dispatched 1 day after ordering, delivery 2 days later if they put you through as a priority order. Otherwise it's usually a few extra days. I've not seen 3-4 weeks delivery.

Seems I was paying too much attention to the Estimated Delivery Date of 25/03/2008. Just checked the order status and the server is with the carrier for delivery tomorrow.

1u colocation recommendations anyone?

If you post a request in the requests forum I am sure you will get lots of offers. There aren't a lot of users on here who would be able to offer you a recommendation, as most of us are hosts.

My 860s are like little pocket rockets, especially with 8GB and quad cores... best I look at the 200s though

Very happy with the new R200

I can't believe how much quieter (and smaller) it is. For those of you with racks full of 1425's I assume ear defenders are standard issue.
