Who uses where?

Firstly: Hey, I'm new here, please don't eat me!

Down to business... I'm interested to know what colo providers / datacenters people are using, we've been working with US providers hostdime and softlayer since we started out and are just planning our first uk based hardware.

I'm near to BlueSquare and have worked with them previously with another company I work with, one of whom's servers Matt should be rather friendly with since he spent Valentines day fixing it! So BlueSquare seems the obvious choice, but what other suggestions do people have?

If you're near BlueSquare then I'd recommend someone in BlueSquare - simply so that if something goes wrong you are able to fix it easily. I'd probably recommend Poundhost for providing the service there.

I don't think many people are doing colo that much any more - you could look at othellotech though if you wanted something in E14

We're looking to break into the bigger UK managed hosting side of things having come from shared hosting and managed VPS hosting based in the US, although we have always been based in the UK and the majority of Clients are based in the UK. Just looking for other suggestions incase there is anywhere I haven't looked that that is near to me also.

There's TheBunker but you'd probably pay a premium there, IX Europe (I think) at Heathrow, and probably a bunch more but BlueSquare is probably the best bet for out-of-M25 colo/dedicated stuff

You live near Bluesquare. Job done!

E14 is popular but only if you need London space.

Then you'll need a to at least put your company name and proper contact details on your website. Being vague doesn't attract that type of client.

Id go along with BlueSquare too. Ive been using BlueSquare via Rus Foster/a2b2.com and had no real problems or outages with them in the past year to be honest.

Why don't you start with a quarter lockable rack to start with?

24/7 access, perfect if you are round the corner.

Yes, I'm considering it, although I may team up with friends at another company that have a half rack already, and get a full one since if we can sell stuff in the UK as fast as our US kit sells we will need the room.

Also we need to find a webdesigner since I don't think I'm going to have time to get the new site done by our self-imposed deadline of Monday next week!
