What do i need in terms of hosting?

Hi my first post here, and i hope i am asking in the right section. My name is Peter I am starting up an online business, which will allow users to find a service provider and compare prices. The website will have videos on a couple of pages, and loads of images. The site will also have a forum and a blog, and i plan on sending out e-newsletters to users who have elected to receieve them. In terms of hits i am hoping for approximately 5,000 hits a day.

The website has been built using ASP.NET 2.0(C#) and the database using microsoft sql 2005.

My question is what should i be looking for in terms of hosting, and i have been told it is better to find a host in the UK, since my target market is the UK something to do with SERPS. Thank you, and if possible could you provide me links to reputable web hosts, I am willing to pay the right amount for a very good host.

Hi,

Any UK host on this forum should do what you need. You certainly need a Windows host. Most of the Windows hosts on here will be able to grow with you (shared hosting to begin, then upgrade to VPS and eventually dedicated servers).

Hope this helps,

James

If you want Windows hosting then I've heard nothing but good things from Catalyst2. I've recommended a few friends to them and they have all be happy with the service.

As the previous posters have said, best to start with Shared Hosting with a SQL Express database or similar, and then work your way up through the normal avenue of Shared > VPS > Dedicated. At the latter end you may choose to go to collocating your own equipment.

Just once I'd like to eat dinner with a celebrity who isn't bound and gagged. Is that too much to ask?
