Poundhost Break 2 promises in 2 days!
My first post here, and unfortunately it's not one of praise.
I came to the site yesterday whilst on the hunt for a new dedicated server. Probably the first of many. I have several scattered around the net. But the one I was interested in moving was one with fasthosts due to the servere outages the other day and their terrible support.
After reading the much praise on here for poundhosts and seeing their great offers I ordered a new server yesterday afternoon. Albeit close to 4pm it was before. So as stating on their website i was expecting it to be set up the same day, although no details materialised.
Last night at about midnight i sent a support ticket regarding this and was very pleased to get a very prompt reply, so I can't moan about this part of the service.
Later in the morning at about 10am I received another ticket from matthew which was as follows, the ticket was then closed so I couldn't reply.
Hello Mark,
Sorry for the delay, we have experiance staff shortages this week due to the flu bug that seems to be going round.
Your server will be setup today, and more details emailed to you.

Great I thought, running several businesses I know that staff shortages do occur every now and then, and it was good of them to keep me informed.
HOWEVER.......
It is now nearly 9pm and I still havn't received any details for my server.
Have I made a terrible mistake here?

I'd simply give them a call or open a ticket.
I wouldn't expect the world on a platter 
With staff shortages, management can get quite difficult very quickly, and you said yourself they are quick to respond.

The day is not over yet, your server will be setup today as promised!
Your order was very close to the mark though on Friday, 1 minute before 4pm!!!

I knew it was close, but not that close. May be there was a delay.
I must admit, I thought that once it was past 5pm on a Saturday I didn't expect to hear anymore today. If it does get set up today, then you have exceeded my expectations.

I have to say, PoundHost have always been very responsive and helpful the couple of times we've needed them.
Sure they narked me by overloading a power bar and being hooked up to a temperamental NetGear switch (I hate NetGear, any NetGear device I go near instantly malfunctions!) hardly fills me with confidence, but I would still recommend them based on their pretty much flawless support.

I must admit, they have done as they promised. Although i was taken back by the fact that nothing is set up on the server. no IIS no DNS, I even have to format and set up the second hard drive. I just feel that because i pushed to get the server set up, not everything has been done. May be i'm wrong and this is how all their servers come, nice and clean! If it is then I appologise but every other dedicated server I have leased has the basics installed and up and running. I can understand their reasoning behind this, that I can now set up the server to do whatever I like. Which is a good thing, but I was hoping to have the basics installed, am I asking for too much?
I agree with freethought though, the support response times are excellent!

I would also like to give a little reasureance and say how helpful Matthew and everyone at Poundhost have always been.
I've had (requested) phone calls at 11pm from Matthew before.

Well, at the end of the day, IIS and DNS and other bits and bobs are bits I'd always prefer to do myself, so it's done the way you want it  Doesn't take long for things like that to install anyway.

Yup it's always the best way. Otherwise users come back with I didnt want it done like that.

Have to say that one of my clients used PoundHost for the launch of one of their partners games. We suggested PoundHost as a recommended solution to this, and well, without a doubt I can say that all parties were extremely happy with the service. I would just say be patient, as from what our client came back and said, it was worth it.
Have to say though, this flu thing is going round, I've got a colleague sounding like he's about to cough up his 91st lung of the day and it's only 2pm. He's very close to being quarantined!
