Network performance/uptime of Poundhost vs Rapidswitch

Hello all,

I'm thinking of getting a few servers from Rapidswitch as their standard services (permanent KVM over IP, remote reboot port) are one click above from Poundhost, especially because you do not need to wait for a response (even if it is quiet fast) to have a server reboot.

My question has to do with network quality and uptime.
Can anyone share his/her experience while been with both providers for a reasonable time (at least for 1 year).

I don't care about support as long as KVM over IP and Remote Port is working fine and network is up.

I would appreciate any comments.

Thanks a lot

I've already have servers with Poundhost. I'm looking for an alternative with remote reboot port and KVM over IP along with great network uptime.

Rapidswitch have been our upstream provider for something like four years. We run a hell of a lot of Uk game servers, and it's probably a testimony that we rarely have any problems or complaints on that aspect..

Are you sure you're getting a permanent KVM with RapidSwitch and not falling for the 'free kvm' marketing?

Will be time limited free use of a shared one, which you can connect via your Control Panel for a set amount of time iirc

Chris was just pointing out it's not Perm KVM, ie you can't have it connected 24/7

Just to clarify: Rapidswitch automate the request for a reboot and request for KVM over IP, but in both cases the services are carried out manually. The delay is not usually long and the datacentre is staffed 24/7. There is also a limit to the number of automated requests you can make without raising a ticket to explain why (I think this is still the case but I'm open to correction!) -- realistically this is not going to be an issue.

Rapidswitch provide a very good service at their price point, but you need to be sure that what they provide is exactly what you need.

I can't see a real benefit over Poundhost if both KVM and reboots are carried manually apart from being in a network with a better uptime (not sure).

Well RS and Poundhost are in the same dc and PH does use rapidswitch for transit (among others).

RS's kvm/ip iirc is limited to one session of upto 4 hours a month.

Perhaps you could explain what sort of problems you have had with PH ?

Avoid Rapidswitch like the plague. They have had two complete power failures in the last two months and have made no claims that anything will be different going forward.

The cause of the power outages may be out of their control.

You're unlikely to find a budget operator who provides permament KVMoIP etc smply as the margins arent there to spend £100k on a decent system to offer for "free" to the clients

When APC start providing enterprise UPS systems and remote reboot systems to all-and-sundry free of charge including onsite maintenance, software upgrades and patches, development of control/api software, then *maybe* remote reboots will be really free, until then even those of us that offer it *included* in the service are charging for it one way or another ...

Simple, buy your own servers with KVMoIP, this was the solution I came up with when I too was presented this KVMoIP dilemma a while ago.

Of course you could always choose a VM platform and you may receive full console access
