C&W and THUS
Hi all,
With the recent offers from C&W to acquire THUS looking more likely, I'm interested to know if anyone has experience with C&W from a colo perspective.
Wondering how this will affect their London sites, especially Park Royal & IP House.
Any ex or current C&W people on the forum? (thoughts invited)

IMO, I dont think it will affect any existing colo hosting services. The acquisition is based around the purchase of Thus existing business customers and their UK Ethernet network.

IP house is a good example here, in that when Legend were acquired by THUS they went partially from technical to security staff on site (and only security out of hours) along with progresssively losing interest in colo itself as a product, only being able to sell services where they tied into a bigger MPLS (or similar) deal.

I suppose we are on the front line on this one. We have a Layer2 National Ethernet connection with Thus and after speaking with our account manager it seams that C&W are primarily after the fibre network. Pricing im told will remain unaffected.

If they take over Thus colo facilities, I would expect more red tape and higher prices!

On the L2 National Ethernet C&W benchmarked their pricing on Thus so their won't be any nasty surprises. We have dozens of circuits from various carriers and NTL:Telewest are very competitive if you are looking for alternatives.

I've always found NTL:Telewest quote crazy install fees, even for on-net locations, is your experience different?

Hi Andrew, sorry to have taken so long to respond. They are a bit steep on installation prices but quite flexible if you are prepared to take a 3 year deal. I
can recommend Calyx group as well....they will always consider the commercial pressures you are facing and construct a deal that works for everyone.

What sort of install price would you call crazy? Also depends on whether you have an LE46 or an LE311 at each end.

And at what tier you are on NTL:TW sales scale. If you fancy a price comparison drop me the next one you need and I'll run some figures and see how they stack. Most folks don't need a 311 and only have then at aggregate unless they are using a gig tail...

Thanks guys, but you've lost me, can you explain your LE46 and LE311 terminology? I'd been investigating long haul ethernet Edinburgh - London, all on POP inside datacentres, 100Mbps, 200Mbps..upwards.

LE46's and LE311's are Lightening Edge "managed switches" for want of a better description and are NTL:TW's preferred CPEs.
Product Overview - World Wide Packets - True Carrier Ethernet™
If you are looking for pricing, PM me the sites and B/w's required and I'll sort you a deal.
