Looking for Co-location, either in London area, or with cheap remote hands.

Hi there,

I've searched through this forum and read a few threads, but couldn't see an existing thread that really covered this.

We need 4u of colocation space (to host a Dell 1u Poweredge 1950, connected to a Dell 3u MD1000 DAS unit). This will have about 8TB Disk space all in.

Our main requirements are;

a) Datacentre in London where site visits are allowed. This way we can attend site to plug in a disk in order to copy data onto the server.
OR
Datacentre out of london with free or cheap "remote hands" so we can post the disk to site and have someone plug it into our server for us.

b) Cheap bandwidth - I know everyone always wants "cheap" but we're looking at 300Gb transfer per month initially which could increase. We'd therefore like reasonable bandwidth costs.

The above are our two main requirements. Anyone got any suggestions?

....and list how much power these units are using. We just put one of those MD1000s in for a customer (although it was a 2950 rather than a 1950 and 15x1Tb drives) and that was a total of about 2.2amps IIRC.

It would be useful to know your required data rate in Mbps as most Colo providers will charge bandwidth on the 95th percentile.

Luca, you need to be a qualified host to post we refer to them as "Hosts", check the menu tab called "Hosts only Section" at the top for all info before posting any other ads

I will have to let you get away with that one as i did technically say you can... Perhaps i should be more careful with how i say it in future, perhaps "Aproved Hosts"

Hi all,

Thanks for the replies so far. Can't believe I didn't notice the requests section.

As people have started to put quotes in here, it would probably get messy if I start another thread in requests and having two different threads open. However if an admin wants to move this to the requests section thats fine by me

A point to add. Anyone who doesn't want to go bankrupt has been increasing there colo prices recently. This is because power costs have increased 70% in the last year alone. Make sure which ever host you go with offers you a 12 month deal.

If you get your colo from a member of this board then you should be fine.
