Dell Servers Question
I know quite a few of you guys use Dell servers and as I cant find much on the Dell site about such a simple question I thought I'll ask here!
Do the Dell RAID controllers have battery's as standard? I cant see anything saying they do, or they don't. I'm looking at the R200 or R300 servers.
Cheers,
Paul

Jamie, Cheers for the quick reply!
PERC - As standard?
SASxi/r - Is this an option?
I've spent a while looking through the Dell site, and forums, and nobody seems to mention this!

Perc is the upgrade one (£x00) SAS is the 'standard' raid controller, but still an upgrade over the SATA controller.
Dont think PERC is available on the R200's

Cheers Jamie, Just trying to get my head around Dell's conventions! Looks like the PERC is an option for the R300 so I'll take a look at those

The SAS Cards are decent enough, but we always go PERC for the battery backup (and better foreign RAID Set import ability)

The battery backup is the specific requirement I'm looking for - I'm used to being able to add it on to pretty much any of the 3ware cards I guess.

Dan - Thanks for confirming that, I could see only the "PERC6E" which confused me!
Have you got any good contacts at Dell? I'm going to guess so as I remember your factory visit - and I'm guessing the truck full of Dell boxes last week was yours!

The Perc 6E is the PCI card (E for External)
assuming you want an integrated card, you want the 6i card.

At the moment we add in 3ware (PCI-X or PCI-E) so I guess by "external" you mean the RAID controller will be a PCI-E/X card rather than built into the mainboard?

Ya,
the i cards plug in to a proprietary port, much easier than PCI-X/E and out of the way.
The E cards also have external connectors on the plate iirc.
