I am just wondering at the moment if there is a good alternative way of implementing an HA solution which doesn't require a single virtual IP address handled by the network of a single provider.

Is there an alternative method of doing this? Can I use DNS distribute traffic?
Well to be fair, you must be on a budget.

If you want a high redundantant setup, lots of money cluster mega setup there are companies on here that would help.

    £39 a month colo. Ahhh

    I'm taking a the piss a bit...
    Good afternoon,

Because of our unique position in the market as part of a group with Data Centres in 5 UK cities we are exploring the demand for offsite services that we can provide to you. In the past we've had enquiries about the best way to build and design a resilient and "always on" service specifically relating to disaster recovery, backup and failover and we now have the opportunity to offer this in full.

So, if you would like to discuss the use of other data centres within the iomart group for existing/new services or maybe services currently hosted with other companies then please just reply to this message as we would be very interested in discussing this with you as we feel we are now best placed to offer a competitive price and quality of service in a way that no other host in the UK can do.

    Regards,

    Paul Tacey-Green

True. I am just thinking about possible alternative solutions atm. Currently paying around £350/month for 4 servers from rapidswitch. Looks like it may be a bad idea to have all the servers with one hosting company, but I don't know of a different way of setting things up than having a single virtual IP pointing at the load balancer. Any suggestions welcome.

I would recommend starting a new thread so we can keep this one on track.

They are certainly having a hard time at the moment, but to be fair (and I know the WHT crowd for example won't consider this), you have to take the bad with the good- and their uptime taking away recently has been fantastic previously.

Haha, best of luck with that!

I know that bloody feeling! You get home, if the hall light is on, you know full well there is going to be some sarcastic comment before you get to the bedroom...

However, new trick wife has now, leave house in total darkness, as you wander upstairs you find a "toy" on the stiars, has to be f*cking squeaky, that goes off, puppies go mad - hey presto house woken up, sarcastic comment as you get into the bedroom...

I love her really, GSOH, cracking cook, but christ, I wish her parents warned me of the moaning or at least gave me a heads up on how to stop it if she does not have her "8" hours of nonstop sleep...

There has been an unscheduled outage, which has affected some of your services:

    Date: 08/01/2010
    Time: 01:10
    Outage Type: Connectivity Interruption
    Duration: < 35 minutes

At approximately 01:10 a massive DDOS attack was directed at the RapidSwitch network. This, when coupled with a particular chain of events, has caused a routing issue within the RSH.North cluster.

Our on call engineers were contacted and the offending traffic has been removed from the network. Service was restored at approximately 01:45.

We would like to express our sincere apologies for the inconvenience this will have caused. If you are experiencing any problems as a result of this please do not hesitate to contact our support team immediately and we will look into this for you.

    Regards,

    The RapidSwitchTeam
Why are a company like RapidSwitch hosting their telephone & support systems on the same network as customer equipment...
