    Sovereign House

We are currently based at Volta and about to expand our network into Sovereign House.

Any concerns with Sovereign House that i need to be aware of?

Back when they were Telecity they had some catastrophic issues with the DRUPS which meant multiple power outages over several days. Presumably they've identified the root cause and resolved it, but it's certainly not the first major power issue that they've had over the years.

I always start by asking why... why are you going to Sov and what do you want to achieve?

I've had a PoP in there for years, and as it used to be the only place where you could do AWS Direct Connect in London (post the power problems Amazon quickly built out in Slough to provide some resilience), but in terms of general data centre, I probably wouldn't build network into there nowadays unless I had a customer requirement.

The GTT network is fine and their NOC are OK (but not as good as NTT or Cogent). Their provisioning team are absolutely incompetent though - expect it to take months for the service to get provisioned and then still be wrong!

We had an absolute nightmare with them in both THN and MA1 from cross connects right through to the BGP sessions and prefix filters.

    oh not so good then.

We already use Cogent at Volta, but was worried about using the same providers at the second location on the bases if they have a core outage then both sites will lose transit. Do you agree?

Who else is recommend? all we need is 1GB Port with 100Mb CDR burstable.

NTT are absolutely excellent, but I'm not sure if they have anything at Sovereign House.

Are you multi-homed or do you just use Cogent for transit?
Will you be extending your network between the two sites or running them as separate islands?

    Hi Ed,

Yes we are multi-homed via our AS Number

We are are getting AI to run a 10 Gbps MPLS between the two sites and have ordered a Brocade Router for Sovereign

Idea being have a couple Transit Providers at each location and MPLS between.

So who is your other transit provider in Volta currently?

The easiest thing is probably just to have the same transit providers at both ends as they are both on-net at both locations.

You might want to get a second interconnect between the two data centres however, in case AI have a complete core network outage so that you don't end up with the network being partitioned.

ISTR that you peer at LINX via a Connexions partner. You might want to consider either moving one of those ports to Sovereign House where you can go direct or even adding additional ports in Sovereign House so that you can split your peering between the two locations.

    Thanks Edd,

Ill look into the second interconnect.

RE LINX, - I was already thinking about doing this.
Leave the two Lon1 and Lon2 via Connexions partner and then add 2 more direct ports one to each LON1 and LON2 - downside to that is i then need to setup double the peering sessions?
