What European domain name registrar do you consider to be the best and most reliable one.
I have a client who needs to know about the best European domain name registrar?

Are you looking specifically for .eu domains, or just a general registrar based in Europe?

I just would like to make a notion of European market... just a general registrars based in Europe!
I don't really understand the question to be honest, maybe I am being thick. I would of thought there were 1000's of options. As long as the price is right and there are no restrictive transfer clauses what would it matter?
Registering a domain isn't like buying a Ferrari!
Fairly difficult to get scammed buying a Ferrari unless you like buying cars from ebay, quite the opposite for domain registration.
Lest we forget ICANN revoking register fly's registrar status due to their business practice.
Just my 2 cents
I'll also admit that I doubt the original poster is interested in the responses.

OK, I should have added - and as long as the domain company your buying from doesn't look like a scam site, or something like.
But as you say it matters not as the poster looks like he's just building up post counts.
One of our clients had serious problems with UKReg (a large UK based registrar owned by Fasthosts) when we moved his kit between data centres and changed the IP block he was using.
It seems that you can't change glue records through the control panel with UKReg and it took them several days to pick up the support ticket and reply to it. Even worse, they didn't understand what he was asking the first two times!
And as Andrew said, just look at the debacle that was RegisterFly, who had nearly a million domains when they imploded and screwed over a lot of people.
So yes, choosing your registrar does matter. You need to be able to get in touch with support, you need changes to be propagated quickly, you need them to not randomly change the whois or nameserver details and you need to know that they aren't going to disappear, forget to renew your domain or hijack it and hold it to ransom.

I must be too trusting, I have never had any problems of that nature. Some of the situations you describe with other companies would be worrying to say the least. Maybe it is more complicated than buying a Ferrari after all!!
I'll echo about UKReg issues, we have a couple of domains with them (brand protection mainly - taking advantage of the buy a .com and get a .co.uk free).
Used their 'advanced DNS' to point * to one of our web servers IP addresses...
Didn't work correctly - phoned up their team in romania/ russia and they had great difficulty understanding what DNS was.
Transfering in/ out domains has to be done manually as their control panel is broken (as described by one of their technical team), and can only be done one at a time (takes about a week to complete) - not sure if its them being obstructive or generally having issues.
Our usual registrar is typically enom - of whom i've only had 1 issue with in the past 8 years.

We had the same problems with transferring domains when we took over PowerCore. UKReg told PowerCore that getting us to sign up for an account was the best way as they can move them between accounts straight away. We did that and then it turns out that there is no way to move between "old" UKReg accounts and "new" Fasthost accounts!
