Can't find the source. When I go to the chrome site it tells me:
"Google Chrome for Linux is in development and a team of engineers is working hard to bring it to you as soon as possible.
Please enter your email address below and we'll let you know when it's released. "
I've fired in my e-mail address so I'll wait and see I guess :-)

"Note: There is no working Chromium-based browser on Linux. Although many Chromium submodules build under Linux and a few unit tests pass, all that runs is a command-line "all tests pass" executable."
Nothing worth even playing with yet it seems.

Back on FF now - I miss that "Stuff", particularly FlashBlock

Never seen speed as a problem with Firefox, also love the addons and ability to used Roboform.
Felt that "Favourites" in Chrome was a bit of an after-thought

I agree favourites are a right pain, I don't want the bar up all the time and I don't want to open a new tab every time... also its naffing me off I need to click in a text box before I can "right click paste" text into it sometimes.

Installed once, had a poke around then left it.
It's very 'alpha' to me at present.

At this stage, it's a toy, a tech demo, not meant to be taken seriously. At this stage.
Google are unhappy with the direction the browser market is going, and are simply positioning themselves to be in a stronger position to force other browsers to support whatever technologies they're pushing (ie gears), and making it clear that if the others don't play along, they'll pursue this and use their full weight to push adoption.
I predict they'll come out with a new beta version roughly when IE8 and FF3.1 land; it will probably be cross-platform, and have just enough features to make it a more feasible day-to-day browser. We'll then start to see added-value features arriving for Gmail and Calendar etc - particularly offline and desktop integration with gears. This should be no surprise - Chrome has clearly been designed from the ground up with desktop integration in mind (separate tab processes, running chrome-less etc), and Gears support is already available for Documents, and has been in limited beta on Calendar for months.
They'll then start pushing Chrome through all available channels, and use the additional features and their position in the market to force other browser companies to adopt at least some of Google's requirements for their push into the desktop and business markets. Microsoft don't seem to be ready for that, so expect them to react defensively, adding support for things like Gears to stop people defecting to Chrome, but leaving out just enough to make sure that their customers still see the line between desktop application and web; I would be surprised to see a chrome-less IE any time soon.
So yes, Chrome is important, but because of what it will do for the future of the web and the landscape of desktop computing, rather than because it's a minimalist browser that is a contender today.

I love a bit of Game Theory/Conspiracy Theory on a Friday! I honestly couldn't agree more and have now adopted this opinion as my own - hope you don't mind? :-)

Lets make that three
I do like chrome but it really can't be used reliably as "main" browser like good old firefox can.

I've used it a few times, and it's OK. No better than Firefox though
