lol, 80000:1, 33000:1 - either way, you're not going to be able to tell, the human eye can't distinguish such large ranges of contrast, besides which, the figure that really matters is the actual contrast ratio at any given time, not the dynamic contrast ratio which is what those figures are.

    James,

Just tested the Sony TV with Sky and the Blu Ray player and it's excellent, much better than the Samsung Series 5 that this is replacing as that went back under 28 days as faulty.

Not an LCD, but a plasma, I got one of these a month or so ago, and I think it's freaking awesome.

I have noticed that the difference between a light and dark screen is about 200 watts too. :-) (Rough figures from an el-cheapo Maplins power meter thingy).

I don't understand why they even bother quoting dynamic contrast ratios. My plasma's normal contrast ratio is 30,000:1, while the dynamic one is something stupid like 1 million:1.

I'd look on avforums too by the way, if you haven't already! They're a friendly bunch.

PS. No, I'm really not a plasma fanboy. Honest.

Ive been considering the 37" Toshiba 1080p set mainly because the frame is so small around the screen, its good quality and I like the way the actual unit looks too....

    But this seems a bargain:

They are selling that at Comet at £599 too and you can add on the sony blu ray player too for only £99, I already had the blu ray player so decided on the W series model instead.

I was contemplating getting the Samsung LE46A656A1FXXU but WhatHifi only gave it 4/5 stars. They gave all the new Sony range rave reviews though so I'm now leaning towards the Sony KDL46W4500U which looks amazing!

If they can't send you a replacement remote control in three weeks (because the one in the box was dead dead dead), I'm not sure what their guarantee will do if the actual panel broke...

Remote will be down to manufacturer supply and they won't be able to take one out of another box - else they can't sell it. Everyone I know who has used their warranty has been very happy.

Wasn't that - in the three weeks of issues, my mates were promised a call back, but that *never* happened. In three weeks, not a single phone call.

Then they said they'd have sent one from a demo unit on the shop floor, but that would've taken a week (why a week, and why didn't they just send it anyway?).

The worst bit was that right at the beginning, they asked my friend to call up Phillips direct!

Before this, I did actually think John Lewis were a good company, but the way they handled this was insanely crap.

They have since apologised with a letter and offered vouchers, but the TV went back in the end, as my friends saw no end to the issue.
