Some space for hosting media

Hi all

I have a reseller account with HI and need to host some media for a customer. 10 - 15 videos around 350MB each. Each one viewed maybe 2 -3 times ever.

HI dont allow uploads over 100MB and dont allow streaming of content either.

The media will be served (streamed) via a password protected page on my customers site so it cant be simply loaded to youtube or similar "open" system.

What options are open to me in this instance?

Could I just purchase some space on a media server of some sort?

Are there any kind of reseller accounts that would allow me to put these files on there?

Kind regards

Paul

I would suspect you would be fine with ANY hosting account with enough disk space... your usage will be very low.

Hi Matt
Anyone except HI it would seem!
Would your UK Reseller professional package cope with this and allow me to stream?

How many websites do you host?
What type of videos are they?

Assuming nothing untoward, then you should have no issue hosting this anywhere, with streaming of certain filetypes handled by the client end.

Hi Jamie
I host about 30 websites on a reseller account, all fairly low visitor numbers though. The videos are of conferences my customer runs. wants to let people watch them online (streaming) after the event.
All videos are in FLV format.
As I say, I have spoken with Heartinternet and they dont touch streaming or allow uploads over 100MB. (unless you break up the file then recompile once uploaded).

Actually, to clarify, I was going to leave everything where it is and just setup the videos on a new system for now, then any additional customers as time goes on would go on here.

Hi,

If they're just native FLV then there should be no issues hosting them on most of the providers accounts on here (we're not allowed to recommend ourselves outside of the Requests for Products and Services section.

I dont see why anyone would ban files over a certain size.. unless they have unworkable limits (ie unlimited transfer and disk) in place, so use this as a brute force sledgehammer to stop people abusing their service..

Just pick a host which has the disk and transfer limits you need, which looks reputable and UK based (assuming the majority of your clients clients are UK based) and drop a few emails to their support / sales people at varying times of the day, to see how they respond.

Good Luck

J

Yes, many of the con-artists aka "unlimited" hosts use file type, size, db record limits etc to ensure that you are artificially "limited" some other way

I left a message on unitedhostings sales phone system a few hours ago, but yet to receive any call back, which is a bit disappointing as they sounded like just what I was after.

I'll see if they call back by tomorrow.
