    Tier 1's filtering web content?

Hearing reports that one of more of the Tier 1's have started filtering web-content - this true?

Not Tier-1s thought is it? It's ISPs not transit providers, big difference

I very much doubt you'll see transit providers ever filtering content as it endangers their common carrier status - As it does for ISPs, but the govt. likes IWF even if they are somewhat shady and secretive IMHO, so it's unlikely to be so much of an issue. Besides which, for transit providers it'd be a nightmare, especially for the Tier-1s that deal with multiple countries and laws.

This started to kick off quite heavily yesterday.

I have been in touch with both Wikipedia and the IWF over this incident as well as a number of the ISP's involved.

All I can say is that the listing IMO was done without true investigation, as the image in question (an album cover from a band called the Scorpions) is also shown on sites such as Amazon and images.google.com

If the IWF had listed google.com for filtering, I suspect that most of the proxies would have fallen over by now (by the sounds of it, many of them are struggling).

Yup, patently ridiculous. I've seen the image in question and lets be fair, our parents have pictures "worse" (for want of a better word) of most of us in their photo albums - but that's Daily Wail PC "won't someone think of the children" society we live in these days. As for the IWF, not fit for purpose would be about right IMHO.

Definitely can't get it here. Blank page in Firefox, and 'Operation couldn't be completed' in Safari.

Yep can't get it from home on be broadband, but can when vpn'd into the office. I may be naive but I didn't realise there was any filtering of this nature going on with ISPs.

I'm on VM; the filtering has been intermitent over the last 24 hours.

Sometimes you can't access the full size image page, or sometimes the article at all.

All throughout though, the thumbnail has been able to be downloaded.

Lol I can get this page though British ISPs restrict access to Wikipedia amid child pornography allegations - Wikinews, the free news source which has the same image on it...
