Thread: Coolant leaking from car

Indeed it sounds like the water pump thats gone.

Ford's since around '95 all (AFAIK) drive the water pump from the auxiliary belt, driving it from the cam belt is a silly idea, especially on a DOHC engine.

Chances are you have not only an aluminium head, but an aluminium head depending on the engine so dont run it without any coolant.

I'd guess around £200 - £250 for a decent garage, obviously more at a dealer!

Recommended to us by the RAC man who came to tow my girlfriends Ford Focus, long story but her car went into Evans Halshaw (Ford dealership next to Old Trafford) requiring a new water pump and came out needing a new engine. The dealership royally ballsed up the job and tried to blame her as the engine 'had overheated' apparently. When asked for the timing belt (evidence of them putting the engine back together incorrectly as the teeth would have been stripped) they said it had been thrown away... ended up taking it to the guys in Urmston, they videod the engine being taken apart and got an independent vehicle inspector out who helped us put the case together and sue Evans Halshow for a new engine... and we won... bunch of lying thieving !"$!"

Got the car to a garage yesterday, a colleague towed me in his Citreon C1, ha.

Going across one round about, an idiot in an astra tried to go OVER the tow rope. He then refuses to reverse and doesn't realise there is a tow rope under his car until I get out of the car shouting "I'm being towed you *("&*£^*(&£(£$^(*&".

hahhaha, surprised he wasn't driving a BMW or Merc

Yes - It has been very cold this month though, the coldest being -18c when I drove to work once last month!

£182 all in to repair, not too bad, perhaps a little pricey.

That price doesn't sound too bad. During the recent snow the clutch went, £375 all in as the slave cylinder needed replacing. If it wasn't for the snow and minus whatever temperatures I would have done it myself!
