Many thanks to Ed at freethought - absolute opposite of what I was getting at Phurix, friendly, helpful, prompt and courteous.

Still not heard a word from Phurix despite asking for a refund of monies I paid up front when they incorrectly billed me for a full year rather than a quarterly bill which I had already paid.

Not they have now changed their address to "Davenport House" in Bury, which turns out to be in the middle of a bunch of apartments, and is run by some company which offers made up business addresses presumably for dodgy outfits who don't want to be found?

Is there anything I can do to get my money back, or should I just be content with slamming them on every review site I can find for the next few weeks?

Thank heavens I moved when I did...

Through Google wallet with my business visa debit, rather than a credit card...

Paid by Google checkout (business visa debit). Replied to this thread 3 hours ago but reply must still be in moderation, wonder if this one will also get stuck there?!

I've released both of the posts from moderation.

Depending on how long ago it was, you might have some luck disputing through either Google or your card issuer, but I wouldn't hold out too much hope I'm afraid

Dispute process started with Google wallet. All Phurix needed to do was offer me a proportional refund and be decent about it, and that would have been that, but I have reported to Google about the transaction, as well as the fact that their address and phone numbers are both dead/fake. What is it they say about Karma?!

I will report any progress here.

I have been with Phurix since 2008 and only now - April 2014 - have I had a major problem. I have just seen this thread. Did anyone manage to resolve issues with Phurix? I only use them for email hosting but since 28th April 2014 my emails have gone dead. Calls to the number shown in the website - 0871 218 1337 - are answered with a message saying that the number is not aloocated and is for sale. I, like others on this thread, use the emails for my business and now Im stuck without it. Time for a change, I think. Phurix is, I believe, the unincorporated tranding name of James Wade. Does anyone have contact details for him? His emails are now simply being answered with a "Well get back to you right away"-type of response. Of course, nothing happens!

    Any updates/contributions, anyone?

I feel your pain! James Wade left them ages ago to work as a webmaster somewhere, the other one is James Henry.

I managed to get a refund for my hosting after quite a bit of palaver and getting Google wallet involved, but always had the same problem. The last time I looked they had changed their business premises address to something flashy sounding that was actually nothing but a virtual office seemingly in the middle of a council estate.

    I wish you luck!

By same problem I mean emails not getting replied to for months on end, no response to websites down, etc etc...

Thanks wipple99. I think James Wade and James Henry are the same: James Henry Wade. Well, I donlt know if Ill get back the 40 balance left on my account, but what really Im more interested in, is a new server to host my emails!

Wouldnt it have been nicer if he just told everyone he was giving up the business and giving all his customers time to change hosts without all this fuss...So long, and thanks for all the fish.

Are you sure it's one person? I recall both of them passing the buck to the "other james" at times - but if it was one person that sounds about par for the course.

According to his LinkedIn profile, James Wade is "Currently taking an advisory role in the business and not handling day-to-day operations."

You tried the urgent@ email address and IRC ?

deaduseful .com blog is something to do with them from a quick search.

Beyond that if (as it sounds) you're 'down' and unable to contact them, then it's time to look for an alternative email/hosting provider
