I think ill stick with MSN
I used to use Skype a lot, but its easier to type than chat IMO
Also I got through 6 headsets as they all kept braking
1) Speakers went
2) Speakers went
3) Sat on the mic
4) Mate crushed it
5) Cable snapped
6) Speakers went
Im now using good old 5.1 speakers and a Mic that cant move

That's beside the point! I've used Skype (Seemed unstable to me) and Yahoo! (Too many bloody whistles and bells) although never touched MSN.Originally Posted by othellotech
What I like about it is it's simplicity, small footprint (Shade over 2MB) and that it's a major provider using Jabber. Voice is nice, but not something on my "Must Have" list - in fact, haven't even tried it on GTalk yet.

I dont get why Google thing they can just stroll in about 4 years to late, make some half assed chat client, with voice in it. And expect us to all going running for it......
Because they influence 1 in 3 web users![]()

You've got to admit their track record's pretty good:Originally Posted by gservs_karl

They were late into mapping and the maps API is awesome

I'd agree, Gmail is fantastic.
They seem to have the knack of creating technology..
1. That works well and is scalable
2. Unimposing advertising
3. Easy for the novice to pick up
4. Utilising open standards
I suspect Google Talk and point 3 is designed to pick up the novice (I've never used Skype so I've no idea how complex it is).
With regard to lack of features I think that firstly it's only the beta version and secondly and quite key, they've gone with an open chat protocol, so there are limits to fancy features you can add if you want to interoperate.

I noticed that Skype p!ssed themselves over this announcemnet and magically found the API documents they've been promising for 6months+ to publish ...
as to the track records...
late 2 search - took over - gets abused, and serves up 100000000000000000 pages of irrelevant tripe now
late 2 webmail - they came in as practically everyone else dumped - no idea how good it is, I have *real* email
late 2 maps - yep, and its been a roaring success - thousands of business the world over ground to a complete halt while people zoom in on their tiny little homes, and email links to "satelite pick of man taking cr@p in garden" to each other
late to im - and frankly it shows that its been done to round the product range off 'cos MickeyMouseSoft have one as well !

True, but if I remember correctly the porting to a web app was done under the Google umbrella...
EDIT - Can't spell today...
