How much of a difference do these two processors make?

Hi guys im looking at a £90 price difference in the following two processors. Yes their both pretty good with their differences. It will be supported by a 4gb RAM.
  • Quad Core Intel® Xeon® X3220, 2.40GHz, 2x4M Cache, 1066MHz FSB (£90 cheaper)
  • Quad Core Intel® Xeon® X3360, 2.83GHz, 2x6MB Cache, 1333MHz FSB (£90 more)

So how much of a difference will i be seeing in terms of speed? The servers will primarily be for hosting game servers. What differences or limitations am i to expect if i were to go with the x3220 as oppose to the x3360?

Cheers

Well I have no idea re: gameservers.
But if you have the £90 go for the 3360 faster and larger cache. As your buying it you want to get the best you can for the £££ so it has a long a life as possible.

We have a busy MySql server with Dual Quad 2.4's (so 19.2Ghz) which saw a 85% *ish* reduction in load over the Dual 3.2's (so 6.4Ghz) previously setup

So the 300% processor improvement, doesn't scale even remotely linearly to the perfromance increase.

Simple answer to which is better is - are you going to be using al the power of either ?

Yes 5-6 game servers 24x7x365 busy on top of that there will be 5 other dormant servers. I wouldnt say all the power but pretty much more likely when we move everything from other providers into the box.

Having compared them on the intel website, I would expect at least a 10% performance improvement with the X3360
Whether that is worth £90 will depend greatly on the platform constraints, so some info on that would help
