Surely if your business model is profitable then you can afford the small fee of £5 or whatever for billing software. Failing that, why not write your own?

Billing software is worth every last penny you invest in it, provided that you find the one that fits your needs.
A lot of billing providers will give you a free trial to see if you like it - do a whole bunch, and if you find one that fits your needs - *buy it* ! Chances are you might not be lucky enough to find something that fits your needs exactly - in which case you should consider writing your own.
I wanted to offer a topup-based, easynews (www.easynews.com) style payment system, and tried in vain to get Modernbill to do the job: it was a complete waste of time. I ended up spending half the amount of time I spent on modernbill to write a Paypal script and some backend scripts that did what I wanted - it all comes down to what you're trying to do!

hi, no doubt there's a lot of new scripts about since last post.
please recommend free cpanel/whm billing software
i have tried some free and paid ones already
whmcs - far too advanced for what i want to do
whmsubs - couldn't get it to work
free hosting manager - no paid option
whmautopilot - complete nightmare to install/work with
minibill - to basic like no design with it whatsoever
phpcoin - just don't like the interface
there's a few others Ive tried too but can't remember them.
if you have any FREE ones to recommend please list them
www.SpendSomeMoneyOnYourBillingSystem.com is a good idea.

Why are you so unwilling to pay for a billing system, yet you're so fussy about the free ones.
Let me guess, you're also on a £1.99 unlimited reseller account as well?

If you want simple then you should look at Client Exec however bare into consideration that something simple might work fine for you now but later down the road it might not - moving billing systems is a lot of hassle and a lot of work (I experienced this when I moved from Client Exec to WHMCS).
As for something that's free, don't be silly![]()

You could write your own billing system, that would be free (ignoring your staff costs)
A simple PayPal IPN to cPanel XMLAPI type script wouldn't take too long and would be suitable for simple setup.

i like whmcs but am not going to pay £7 a month to lease the software when I'm only going to be reselling a few accounts. i may sell more accounts, but at first will only be selling a few of them just to help pay for my dedi server.
it's a shame whmcs don't offer a free version for starters like what whmautopilot do where you can use the software for upto 10 clients for free. if you put in for that and find it isn't going to take of as you thought it would then you haven't lost anything.
also, I'm sick of paying one off fees for software just to test them only to find out there not upto it. i got nothing lose if i stick with free software.![]()

Thats WRONG. You have an awful lot to lose by basing your billing on free software.i got nothing lose if i stick with free software
I don't think your going to find what your looking for. So either give up or pay some ££.

If you want free billing software, then why have you put
in your list of ones you've rejected?

Hi,
Don't take this the wrong way, it's nothing personal, but if you're only doing it to help pay for your dedicated server then the best advice anyone can give you is don't do it. If you're selling hosting to people then they have a reasonable expectation that you know what you're doing and you're doing it for real - not just some pocket money or to cover a bill. They could very well be placing their whole income source with you and you're only doing it to cover a bill, without the backup in place if things go wrong.
Thanks,

Is £7pm really going to put you in debt? If that's the case, don't start hosting.
If you're only going to be "reselling a few accounts" why do you need a dedicated server? That's what Reseller accounts are designed for.

I've been running a music site since 2006 for djs and recently introduced mix hosting
Atm I'm paying for dedi server out own pocket. Until i get enough djs upgrading their account from free package to paid (i know only few will do this heh) I'm going to be a little skint for a while. So i was thinking why not just resell a couple of accounts under another domain that is also DJ related. I have no intention of robbing anyone lol. They would more than get there moneys worth.
You see I'm paying for a top quality dedicated server but my site is hardly using resources etc. Know what i mean now?
I not long found cp creator which looks promising... anyone use it?
Considered downgrading to shared/reseller/vps instead then to save some cash?
