    Spam & Virus filtering

    Hi Guys,

I'm after some ideas for a mail relay box. What I'd like it to do:

    > Act as an incoming mail server, and will be the primary MX for corporate and select client domains

    > Filter emails based upon spam & virus content. I'd prefer for these to be stored locally instead of being deleted

    > Forward the 'clean' mails onto our other servers, where these domains sit.

    > Some sort of control panel to adminster this.

    > Linux based.

I'm happy to go down the paid software/hardware route, and have looked at SpamTitan, which seems quite good.

Do any of you have any recommendations that either you've used, or your clients have used.

    Cheers.

Ironport (Lots of $$$ required though, but it is fabulous)

I would recommend spamtitan, we have found it very effective even in comparison to the ironport offerings. After an ironport tech had 'tuned' our test appliance, spamtitan still had similar filtering rates.

Check out the ESVA appliance. It's someone personal project to setup a fully mailscanning appliance using linux/mailscanner/spamassassin.

You can get a vmware image or an ISO for CD install i think. I've set it up for a couple of people who dont want to pay for an 'enterprise' solution and it works well.

Another vote for the ESVA appliance - very easy to set up, good detection rates, and best of all - free!

    Cheers guys.

Looks like a tossup between ESVA & SpamTitan. I'll do some more reading up!

    I would agree with this.

I run EVSA and Exchange in my at my home office, it serves me very well for anti virus and antispam.

It works with multiple domains, has a web based control panel.
