Is fantastico worth installing? Personally I don't like it but what do others think? do a lot of people actually use it?

We use it - the cost is so small that I don't see any reason not to, a lot of people like the "1 - 2 click installs" of stuff, I don't monitor how often its used though, so can't comment on how popular it is.

The only reason against it is the occasional out of date installations, but they are few and far between and if you keep it updated your ok.

If your a web host its a must have IMO

From my experiences and memories, totally utter pita.

Imagine people getting a new account, clicking install x100 times, and leaving those scripts up and running.

They get out of date, and they are exploited.

Fantastico is great in theory (and great for those hosts that I'm sure are exploited), but its one of the catch 22 situations of web hosting.

That of giving the user ease of use (because they are lazy), and that of sustaining excellent uptime (we all know how web hosting customers relate to even a *blip* on apache!).

If I was doing it again, I would take the lesser of two evils and not bother.

People look for it in the specs, but hardly use it after they clicked it once or twice.

I think fantastico is useful for customers so it will be good to be installed.

I think that someone with a lot of experience will prefer not to use fantastico.

Hi,

It is a good addon, as most of hosting clients will still prefer point and click installations, even for experienced ones.
