Direct Admin

I've never actually used this Control Panel, Apart from the demo on their website.

What is it like for memory footprint and cpu usage?

Out of cPanel, Plesk and Direct Admin I would definitely say DA is both the most stable and uses the best with resource usage (the two probably go hand in hand?)

Direct Admin has worked the best with our VI VDS's, that's with a bare bone centos install

Tried cPanel and Plesk, but its easy to do to much with them.

I use DA and love it. Easy to install, doesn't take over your entire system like cPanel, and as Ben says works really well on small VPS.

My only gripe is it's MTA is Exim which I've never got on with or found anywhere near as good as Postfix. That said, the DA Exim implementation works fine.

Its the least feature-rich of all the curently maintained CP's out there

IMHO not very logically laid out/intuitive , but once you get used to t, its ok.

Memory footprint is ok, its about the only commercial CP that'll run acceptably on a VPS with under 384Mb ram

Support can be an issue - the forums are a helpful resource but actual problems can often be ignored by the deveopers

We get far more DA related support than for CPanel in terms of interface and how-do-i questions, the *interface* might be stable, but it does seem to regularly fruckup apache configs, bind configs etc - the most common issue is it failing to reload them correcly afetr a new site is added menaing a quick SSH job, but a bigger problem if the end-user keeps adding more and more

ISTR but only vauguely there was an issue with getting SSL certificates working, but its a whiea go and the details are hazy now.

It's got good take-up over the last 2 years as its so cheap.

Main thing I didn't like about DA is the lack of PHP freetype support, I had to recompile PHP to add in support. Other than that I found it OK (as far as CP go) and runs fine on a box with 512MB of memory.
