Tracking Bandwidth

What do you generally use to track your users bandwidth on your server?

Basically I just need to keep track of the monthly usage so that if they go over thier set limit I can bill them.

I'm hosting on IIS5 and 6 using a mixture of static IP's and shared IP host headers. I currently run webalizer for the users, but is this really sufficient for bandwidth tracking? Or if webalizer works OK for you, is their an easier way to list all the domains on one page instead of having to view each webalizer page seperatly for each different user domain. At present its just IIS that I need to keep track of, since I'm allowing unlimited FTP and SMTP access.

Many Thanks
Phil

I have been looking over MRTG, but have only been using it to get the Total Bandwidth going through each of the NICs. Since the stats need to be shared among my users this isnt working, yet.

Have you got any suggestions on where to look for guides on integrating MRTG with IIS?

TIA

as to the webalizer - look at summarizer which is a collation tool for it
for mrtg hints, try ...

We wrote our own Windows services to filter the iis logfiles (nightly) and extract bandwidth use (In and Out) per virtual server (HTTP & FTP). It works on the per site level for shared servers; We also wrote a windows service similar to MRTG that collects switch port (and router) stats every 5 mins using SNMP and dumps the info into an SQL DB. We then query that using std SQL. Unfortunately we don't sell any of it as a seperate product, but i am possibly going to be looking at doing so if there is any interest?

Alternatively many of the popular control panels such as Helm have similar functionality.

We had also written our own software to gather the usage from the IIS logfiles - but just let our control panel H-Sphere take care of all that now

But this could be quite handy for you...

Never used it myself, but it looks pretty handy...

Cheers

Is there anyway to check b/w per switch port using mrtg? Im doing everything by 95%ile now but GB pm would be good too.

I wrote a windows app that grabs all the users from my control panel, then goes and crunches the log files based on that info. Guess if your data is in an easy format I could ork something to suit you, drop me a line and i'll see what i can do...

Post it here for generations to marvel at your cunning and prowess

you done it as a direct mrtg hack or like the 95%ile as a separate script that rewrites the mrtg outputs ?
