Really don't think it would have been worth their while to support 2003 considering how popular Windows 2008 is becoming.

Is there really that much difference in 2008 to stop things from 2003 working?
It's still IIS/ASP.net and SQL Server, just newer versions.
Excuse me if this is just a Linux geek being naive to think that Microsoft might preserve backwards compatibility between versions of IIS and SQL server![]()

How much incompatability is there between php4 an 5 .... its a rhetorical question, but you get the point...

Everything that runs on Win2k3 will run on Win2k8. Win2k8 is more stable and secure however and includes some nice IIS features out of the box. Hyper-V is also a killer.

Yeah, but PHP5 was a major architectural change to significantly enhance the object orientation and fix some serious architectural and/or security issues from PHP's past. Even then, most code from PHP4 will run unmodified on PHP5; it's only the badly written stuff and stuff using depreciated or insecure functions that breaks.
MySQL 4 to MySQL 5 on the other hand is the exact opposite, I've never come across something that runs on 4 that won't run on 5.
What I was trying to ask is; are there any major architectural changes to IIS/ASP.net or SQL Server in the 2008 editions that actually break things?

A few, mostly permissions based to be honest and changes to UNC/Symblinks for pathing for IIS. But as you say, most correctly written apps will work fine...
Big difference of course in corporate world with the depreciation of various older SQL and Exchange versions which don't run (without bodge) at all on W2k8, but then if you want to run Sql7/2000 or Ex5.5/2000 on w2k8 you probs need to think of your overall upgrade statergy...
