I totally agree
Getting to the fine line of filtering out the crap, viruses in the wild, malicious scripts, spam.etc .etc .etc is by no means an easy task, and you cant expect to get it right with your initial configuration - 12 months down the line and im still doing fine tweaks to cover areas that its not picking up.
I also dont know how you can expect to live with one configuration for good either, as the techniques from spammers, viruses.etc are constantly changing their techniques...
