email scanning
Can anyone point me to companies that do email virus scanning?
What I mean is I point my MX for my domain to them, then scan for viruses and forward the mail to me server after its been scanned..
I know of Message Labs but there must be lots of others..
Thanks

Can you not just install MailScanner/ clam or F-prot and run it in-house?

We've added gateway servers to scan mail (antivirus by default, antispam options) before passing to our core mail servers for high-end clients, non-clients, and for servers on which adding local scanning would be difficult. Might be worth considering setting up something similar?

I think you need to be a reseller to see that page Sean.

Thanks for pointing that out Mark
Didn't realise as they just mailed it to me - I never checked it out - If anyone cares for the details who is not an OSRS reseller just PM me or ask me to post it I'll sort it out
Cheers,
Sean

Yes this sounds like a good idea..
I have also been looking into ClamAV which looks quite good and is updated regularly..
I guess running as much inhouse as possible is always a good way to go..
Later..

ClamAV is a nice little AV program
You shouldn't have any problems with it.

Maybe, but not best in all ways. For example, if you used a mail gateway from another provider they would probably hold your mail until your mailserver came back up if your network died, or the mailserver itself crashed, etc. Adds redundancy.
There's pros and cons to running inhouse or outsourcing - just need to find a balance.

It's not bad, but f-prot and other commercial AV are a lot better.

It depends on your market, but I would not entrust paying clients email solely to clamav and dismissing email scanning as "not a complex issue" is very naive. You may not think it is complex, but I've seen too many companies make a mess of this.
