Hi,
It would appear that it is against the regs...
(c) the geographical address of the place of business of the supplier to which the consumer may address any complaints;

I know this may seem an odd thing to say, but from what I've seen, many part-time one-man operations are virtual and may not have a 'place of business'. The easy way out for these (some good, some bad) operations is to simply cite the owners home address, but that's a kludge.

Whilst I'm typing, I assume that people are aware that a P.O. box convey no privacy, in that anyone can ask who the owner of a box is, and the Post Office are obliged to disclose the information.

That's - they're way too small.

Perhaps you should pay more attention in English class.

After all the info i have got here - I thought i would help, but really ask - why do you even want ftp???

If you want to provide a secure gaming server service then surely SFTP with SSH would be by far more ideal????
That way users can directly access their game server shell for manual server restarts and updates rather than only using rcon/hlsw etc.
At least ssh/sftp is pre-installed even if installing ftpd is as simple as apt-get install ftpd (or whichever package you choose).

This information is out of date, GServs dont even offer shared gaming slots, we have founded another company for that.

As stated in our FAQ

2)

Question: How will I access my server?

Answer: With a Windows O/S you can use remote assistance, or VNC. With Linux, direct SSH root access.

If shared game server company did that, what is to top the client from "updating" there server from a 10 slot to a 64 slot?

Letting game server users have access to a shared system via SSH is just asking for trouble in my opinion.
You can make all the changes you need using FTP apart from perhaps changing the parameters the server uses the start up, however this can be achieved through a simple web interface.

Its also far easier to chroot users using ProFTPD and friends then it is using sftp.

Like i said, you give the client root access then your going to get huge traffic spikes.

4u-servers,
b33f,
Firestorm,
INX-Gaming,
e-FRAG,
forceservers,
xtremeservers.

All the big UK game server rental companies offer FTP, and no SHH access

Users can do this by using RCON in most games, so you need to check people are sticking to there user limit just like you do with branding / de-branding.

Might depend on the game type but Jolt gave us ssh for our UT server, prob becuase all they did all day long was reboots for people that messed up the ini files.

I will look into that!
Were developing a new management system, it may be a good time to bring it into play if it supports sftp. Thanks Karl :-)

Jolt has always (AFAIK) offered SSH access, most hosts do not offer SSH access on a shared system tho.
We do not need to reboot servers for our users as they can do it via our web control, most other hosts offer something similar these days.
