jolt use ssh - but not shared so only you can fiddle with your own services that are running.

It is true though -ssh does allow for large levels of abuse if you know what you are doing but for counterstrike, the number of times a beef server, clanplanet or DG one have been unavailable for matches due to updates is irritating.

I think jolt regularly check their servers for capacity alterations - and it is easy enough to check via a html interface. They can get status of every server and check actual slots versus authorised slots and if actual is greater it can be flagged and they can correct it or deal with the matter harshly as it would contravene terms and conditions.

Jolt' website says they offer SSH access on there shared servers. When I say shared servers I mean there is more then one game server user allocated resources on that server.
You will all have your own login', but you quite easily "walk around the server" and possibly snoop at other users files if they have not set the correct permissions.
We do not offer SSH access as anything the user needs to do can be done using our web interface and FTP. I'd rather not spend all my time "policing" the servers making sure users are not installing / running programs they should not.

I can't really comment on this as we don't host Counter Strike servers.

Our system checks every few hours to make sure people are obeying the rules, if there not, there sent an email.

Sending them an email is far better then just terminating there account.
If they want to run a bigger server, they should pay for it, simple as that.

If you allocate resources for 3 users on a server and all 3 of them start using twice as many resources, your going to have performance issues!

All the big UK game server rental companies offer FTP, and no SHH access
From where I'm standing that's not true.

I have to agree with traffic spikes though - I upload to jolt at 40mbps over Janet. You can always control it though and as long as you are using linux i have recently found traffic shaping to be quite easy.
