What remote desktop connection software do you use to give access to your dedicated boxes?

We also use TightVNC since some applications don't like being used via Remote Desktop/TS.

This is true, but the ones we've found don't like RD/TS are ones which run on the console, and when using VNC you access the console, not another session on the server. You can get round this with the /console switch on mstsc.

I spoke to the admin (if thats what you can call it) and mentioned that the phone number and post code he had was just that of BT Telecom Tower (no doubt BT's registered offices on the Ripe DB)
I also tried to explain that the guy that hacked him was not a 'pro' hacker and more of a spotty teen with nothing better to do than be a 'wanabe'

If you are going to report vulnerabilities to a wider community, it's normally a good idea to do your research first and ensure that it actually is a vulnerability, not just some kid with a lucky password guess.

I know there was a microsoft security patch on 9th Aug for an RDP vulnerability. I dont think it gave access to the machine. I think it was just a DoS vulnerability.

I wasn't reporting it, I was just showing people what I had read. As it is, I tried to do some research with regards to any RDP vulnerabilities and found the same as SynergyWorks

This is the one. AFAIR, it's also vulnerable to a man-in-the-middle attack as well...
