Hi,

Does anyone use or at least know Confixx (by SW-Soft)?
In Germany, it is quite popular.

From an administrators point of view, it is better than Plesk and many other control panels, because behind the scenes it can be customized better and it doesn't depend on the manufacturer's choice (and update interval) of system packages.

One drawback might be, that it runs best on SuSE and Debian Linux. Both not very usual in the UK.

I would say the major downside is its still a control panel

Hi Chris,

I do not like control panels either. But customers, who rent managed servers, do. At least, if they expect cheap offers. ;-)

In Germany, a kind of get-all-pay-little mentality is very common.

I think development is going to cease eventually as they focus more on Plesk. Confixx was acquired by SWsoft at the same time as Plesk to get a foothold in the German market, but they are focusing on Plesk now they created a migration path for Confixx -> Plesk.

It runs best on SuSE as SuSE is very popular in Germany, similarly to how Plesk runs best on RedHat/Fedora/CentOS as those are most popular in the rest of the world.

(This is what I was told about a year ago, so I'm not sure how accurate it is now)

That is exactly what SW-Soft announced at the end of 2004. Meanwhile, they released a new feature release: 3.1.x.
Version 3.2 (including even more new features) will be released this month.

Seems as if SW-Soft intended to replace Confixx much faster than they actually do. It is still very popular in Germany, and much cheaper.

If you ask SW-Soft, nobody remebers their own end-of-development announcement.
