Yeah a pretty impressive PR move... wonder if it really works in boasting HELMs profile in sales though... as pretty as it is, not sure if there is a real need for it.. but its still pretty cool.

Either way.. very much looking forward to the long awaited release of HELM 4 better be worth the wait.

Em helm did a nice job, it seems hosting controller will be launching their public beta in two weeks, final version around September at the latest, with a bit of luck from talking to the techs cluster support should be great!

The senior tech in question commented about a 15 node cluster, even got http access to have a look round, the new cp looks very nice, i wonder how helm will do against hosting controller

HC have definitely stepped up their game since HELM was launched but HELM 4 does look more of a complete solutions. It looks very good if you want to provision a server for a customer but not give them root access since they can control a lot more than before.

I cant say to much about hc as most of the info isn’t public, keeping it from helm etc

Once the beta is out i will be testing every feature and prob submitting about 20 bug reports a day!!!!!

HC v6.1 wasn't the best i must admit on that but the new version sounds rock solid

    Just watched the helm video....

Looks like Adam is trying to do something abstract like apple did in the 80's.

Sorry to be blunt (Adam/ Mark) - but whatever you paid for that video was too much.

With regards to the product itself, i'll be quite interested in having a play with the GUI. If it lives up to anything that Adam was talking about in IW last year, should be quite an impressive product.

From what I have seen - it does make use of some really good UI features in .net 2.0. Its a massive step on from your 'single click to URL' usability. Much more like OWA to be honest in the way it operates.

I must admit, I wouldn't of thought it was a related product to HELM v3 in its functionality should you look beyond the relationship. I can see it being a very strong Plesk contender.

Its a great improvement so far.. but I am looking forward to seeing what has been changed in the public beta from when I last saw it in action.

Ah well if hc doesn’t do what it says on the tin will drop them for helm, ouch just paid $300 for hc backup software em.

I know hc has a new interesting backup feature, its public on the hc forum so i can say more, basically hc v7 can do a live backup, one click it can duplicate itself to a new server, so if your moving hardware it can do it on the fly while the current server is running, useful for backups to.

I also think they have integrated godaddy as another domain provider but im not 100% on that. Last time i spoke to the techs they were looking for a decent site builder to integrate they have found a couple but wouldn’t work well with hc, i put forward my suggestion the same software as godaddy use website tonight which they can get from the same place as godaddy did.

One thing i have never liked about hc its the gui, its never been that friendly take a look http://www.dhosting.co.uk/admin user demouser pass demouser its no where near as nice as helm but from what i have seen the new version looks nice and should allow for easy editing of the look and feel of hc.

I think the major difference between helm and hc is support, hc you get 24x6 support at no extra cost, helm you have to pay, ive not had any direct experience with helm so im not sure how buggy it is, install issues etc, hc isnt to bad you just get a couple of machine specific issues sometimes, but they release a hotfix every month between the 17-20th. If you have a suggestion that can be implemented quickly they do it for the next hotfix and send you the fix / update before everyone else

Anyways that’s my rant over and done with, would be interested to know what you guys think of the helm install and general use, bugs etc.

Its beta software nothing unusual but did they do it to kick hc's backside as they are supposed to be releasing this week, im sure theirs a reason behind it all, will be testing on R2
