Hybodus going open source
Hi Guys,
Some of you may be interested in Hybodus going open source. We've used it commercially for sometime and although it does have some niggles it is quite good, it's quite nice looking and easy to use - but with it going open source should be able to iron out all it's niggles etc

Cheers,
Sean

Interesting. I've been meaning to give Hybodus a try it out for some time, given that it can be setup within a VPS (openvz) within "15 minutes."

How do you find it scales though? We had a lot of problems with it when monitoring many servers and dropped it for zabbix.

It could be better from the GUI POV when you have large numbers of monitor, but from the actual monitoring I think it's OK, we do have it running on a Xeon with 1GB ram - but opening it up will mean we can tweak and rewrite everything as needed, because it is quite a nice app really.
How are you finding Zabbix, it looked pretty cool - I did start installing it, but hit some problems and didn't bother to look back at it yet.

We just started using it a couple weeks ago, and are still tweaking the triggers, so I'll keep you informed. It seems pretty good though, more so than Hybodus, but as you said parts of Hybodus can now be re-written.

What problems did you experience with it?

Oh finally, we can fix some of the really bad code in it, maybe it won't take 3 mins to load the opening screen then.

I thought the 8-10 minutes it took us was just me, well that's what their support techs said.

I'll not pretend to know what WMI is (I'm a nix guy), and we've not tested it on our Windows servers yet, but it looks like it's supported:

I think that screen load time is fixed somewhat with the ajax interface that will be released as part of the open source release.

/me hugs his nagios installation
Hybodus seems to have moderately pretty graphs and snmp built in though... might give it a little whirl once the open source version is released.

Nagios 2.5 and NagiosQL usually make for an incredibly powerful and robust installation. I'm glad they've finally got the distributed monitoring code out of experimental status.

good news.
Ive been thinking of playing with hybodus for a while. Our server monitoring bills are incredible each month so doing it inhouse is logical.

No, it's just generally c*** IMHO It looks pretty, but it does some things in an odd way and very slowly. We're currently re-writing our own at the moment to replace Hybodus (we stopped work on it when we got Hybodus - then we realised that we'd need to start again).
