Recommendations for billing management software.

Hi All,

I’m looking for some recommendations for billing management software.

We’re currently running ModernBill 5 and having tons of difficulties with it which are taking forever to get corrected by ModernGigabyte, In fact I wish we had stayed with MB4 come to think of it! But the thought of the soon to disappear support for this software motivated us to upgrade. Anyhow, we’re considering switching to something better, if available with out having to write it ourselves.

Main priorities are:

1, Something clients will understand – simple and friendly interface.

2, Can automate signups for Helm on our Windows servers and DirectAdmin on our Linux Systems.

3, Can also handle billing for our Dedicated Servers and non hosting related products and services.

Any and all opinions very much appreciated.

Modernbill is one of the finest billing softwares available till date. you might experience a bit difficulty in understanding it at an early stage, but once its properly tuned and configured as per your requirements, it will give very good and stable results for your billing methods.

Its client interface is quite friendly and I dont think that should be a problem.

I believe MB offers a module for Helm and DA.. Hence it shouldnt be a problem to configure the automated singups.

Managing billing for Dedicated servers is possible, as I have seen many datacenters use MB to maintain their billings.

Out of interest, have you actually used the new version 5 of Modenbill extensively for you own business? I believe your comments are valid for Modernbill 4 going by our own successful experience with it, but not the new version 5, hence my post asking for alternatives to Modernbill 5.

Thanks for your comments anyhow, they pretty much sum up my own experiences with Modernbill version 4.

Yep we have tried mb5 but as our requirements are different from yours, we havent given it a try from your requirements point of view. I believe a webhosting provider's comments who has tried v5 will be more helpful.

We are a webhosting provider who has tried Version 5 of Modernbill, that's why we're asking for alternatives to Modernbill 5! - LOL

I’m getting a strong feeling here that you are possibly a reseller of Modernbill and moderngigabytes software? And you have an interest in protecting the reputation of this software?

Is there any reason why you can't go back to v4? I realise that they're EOL'ing it now v5 is on the scene but if you get it tweaked and working okay this shouldn't matter and will buy you the time for v5 to become properly stable.

We're currently on MB v4 and will be sticking with it for quite some time. I've taken a little peek at v5 but our v4 system is working and tweaked/modified almost to perfection so we have no reason to upgrade. Granted, it's taken a whole lot of customisation and hacks to get it how we want it but it's been great.

I'm about to roll out version 3 of WHMAutopilot.

My only real issues with it are that the ordering process is geared up for the US. This wasn't a massive issue as it was relatively straight forward to modify the code to offer UK based locations when ordering.

I also have edited the email templates that are used again this was very easy and had the facility built in.

I had a couple of minor issues post installation this was down to me copying some installation generated files to the wrong locations.

Hi All

I'm also interested in using billing management but would like something operational 'out of the box', would you recommend ModenBill for a small hosting operation?

I don't want to be writing php, sql, modding or 'hacking' so was just wondering...Hoping for it to integrate with Plesk 8.x

Cheers
Lea

There is a free trial of WHMAutopilot and I'm 99% sure there is also a free trial of Modern ill.

From what I have read people seem to suggest that version 4 of ModernBill is the better option rather than version 5.

It totally depends on what you class as 'operational'. The way one company handles it's billing is usually completely different to the next and this is why applications like Modernbill get so confusing on the config side because they try and please everyone.

Modernbill v4 required quite a bit of modification to work the way we want to handle our billing. However, there are many who use it completely unmodified and get on fine. I'd recommend having a good play with the demo to give you an idea of whether it will work for your billing out of the box.
