POUNDHOST GOES VIRTUAL

Poundhost Internet Limited, one of the UK’s leading suppliers of DELL and HP dedicated servers, announces the release of its Virtual Server platform, offering users fast and reliable virtualised servers at a price you would expect from Poundhost.

Poundhost will initially offer four Virtual Server plans, with either Linux or Microsoft Windows 2008 as an operating system. Plans start from £19.00(+VAT if applicable) and all offer a minimum of 2500GB of bandwidth. Each Virtual Server represents a complete system including processors, memory, network, storage and BIOS. These can be rebooted independently of the host and the performance of individual Virtual Servers is not affected by the high usage of others. Customers can access their Virtual Server in the same way they would a dedicated server, either by SSH or Remote Desktop depending on platform.

The Poundhost Virtual Server platform is based on the VMware Virtual Infrastructure 3 Suite, which includes the market leading ESX hypervisor. Virtual Servers are stored on an IP-based Storage Area Network (SAN) provided by LeftHand Networks. This enables secure and resilient storage of customer data due to its 2-way data replication across multiple storage systems.

Customers can expect the same high level of support they receive for Dedicated Servers, including email ticketing and 24-hour telephone support.

What control do you give to clients with the VPS? Can they restart and stop the VPS, schedule their own backups etc through a web interface?

Our new VM Control Panel will be released very shortly which allows real time reboots, re-installs, switch port control, KVMoIP, backups, live snapshots and more.

I agree, we will be adding these over the next few days, we wanted to launch with a pretty standard service that we could then add features to over time.

Yep, VMotion coupled with the hardware diagnostics from the IBM node servers the platform is based upon to seamlessly migrate in the event of a (possible) node issue.

Yes, the RAM and Storage are guaranteed.

Each server node currently has 8Gig of connectivity, shared between the VMs on the node, which is approx 32 per node.

A really good volume license deal or just not playing the license fees?

Want to be a hell of a volume and being pre-paid...

Dont worry, its all above board and with the full blessing of VM Ware, in fact they have worked very closly with us over the last year to setup the systems and use it as a full blown hosting platform as opposed to their normal enterprise platform.

The investment we have made with VM Ware is well into six figure sums, with all involved parties very interested in the results.
