Best broadband with ntl phone line?
Is there any company that can use my ntl phone line to supply me with cheap broadband? It will cost me £124.95 to re-activate my old BT line i'm trying to avoid this. thanks

NTL cable? It's a much better technology than ADSL.

But it costs £18/month for just 2meg and with TalkTalk i can get phone+line+broadband(8meg) all for £20. But to get this i need a BT line. I have a BT socket in my home but when i ask BT to re-activate the line they say it will cost £124.95- that sounds silly money to me

lol, don't believe all the hype, check the ThinkBroadband.com forums for Talk-Talk first. It's up to 8Mbit/s for a start (and only if you're on an un-bundled exchange, otherwise it's 2Mbit/s AFAIK), so you're down to 7.2Mbit/s max, but only if you live close enough to the exchange. NTL are the only ones that can provide you broadband over an NTL line AFAIK.

TalkTalk are quite frankly rubbish. I have telewest cable for two years at uni and it was fantastic. Would have it now but I'm not in a cable enabled area.

Hmmm.. I wouldn't say Talk Talk is bad per se...
The initial signup volume vastly out weighed what was expected, and they have corrected many of the issues with provisioning millions of customers via IPStream due to the failings of LLU within BTW.
However, I think they have got it pretty much sussed now, even if activation may take a while due to the backlog.
Personally, I'm on NTL (well, Virgin now) and have their 2Mbps service which is £10 per month (was on special when I signed up).

Heard a report it could be rolled out across the entirety of their network before Q3 next year

The main problems from what I’ve heard are poor support and installation problems. Once the ADSL line is active everything is ok.
I'm sure TalkTalk / CPWH / Opal will sort it out. I deal with Opal regularly as Platinum partners and am very impressed with them.

I use Virgin (NTL) 20mb and I love it. I've had problems in the past, but eventually got it sorted. TalkTalk aint so bad, i put a few family & friends on it, but like Schumie I also did work for Opal so I worked allot with talktalk and i know they do allot to make it a good network.

I'm currently on Virgin, and really annoyed with them. My cable modem is giving out 192.168.100.0 addresses, rather than the internet ip it should be giving out. I phoned up faults to try and get them to sort it, and they just said 'its your computer not picking up an ip address - phone this £1/min line and they will sort it out'.
Needless to say, i didn't phone the other number - i'm now running perfectly well on nextdoor but one's wireless (also on virgin - and with permission!). Tomorrow i'll be phoning up to cancel my account with them, and i'm moving to Be.

The 192.168.100.0 addresses are only assigned when your one permitted routeable ip is in use. Check you don't have some unwanted visitor on your network eating your dhcp lease.
(alternatively you're one of the only few people still subject to a mac restriction, but all of those went out years ago. Reboot your modem too.).

Yep, done all that - and the only thing connected to the modem is the router. I've also tried plugging my laptop directly into the modem - still get the same address.
It just all went titsup yesterday afternoon.

If you ring them, and have a genuine problem, they will refund the call cost.
